Who are we?

Project S.H.A.R.E. is supported by over 50 local congregations and civic groups.  Foundations including the Carlisle Area Health and Wellness Foundation and the United Way of Carlisle and Cumberland County contribute both food and funds.  We receive regular donations from local businesses and farmers.  Recipients are encouraged to take an active volunteer role in the work at the food bank and on the farms.  Their help is critical to the overall ministry of Project S.H.A.R.E.  In addition, there are three full-time and four part-time staff members who work in conjuction with a dedicated group of more than 500 volunteers.

How does it work?

Project S.H.A.R.E. distributes food boxes on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday of the third week of each month.  Each food box contains 40-50 nutritious food items, about one week's groceries for a family of four.  Teams of volunteers deliver food to some 100 housebound individuals and families.  We use cash contributions to purchase some of the food, we receive surplus and donated items from our supporters, and we glean thousands of pounds of fresh produce through the Farm Project.  More than 25 local farms and farm markets allow us to glean in their fields or pick up items they cannot use or sell.  Our volunteers and recipients work together to pick a large variety of vegetables.  We have a Farm Stand within easy walking distance for many S.H.A.R.E. recipients where fresh produce and bread are given away two to three times a week.

Everyone gains by S.H.A.R.E.ing!

Through fellowship and community, volunteers and recipients alike gain new experiences, discover the rewards of working hard together, and learn how to eat sensibly with free, fresh food and produce.

We help break down stereotypes and build confidence by engaging everyone's talents; everyone benefits by helping themselves and others.  All contributions are valuable, from the hard labor of gleaning fields and moving pallets of food at the food bank to the financial help from our donors to the time invested by our volunteers.
